Gotterup Outlasts the Desert Chaos 🏆
The "People’s Open" lived up to its rowdy reputation as Chris Gotterup secured his second win of the 2026 season in a dramatic playoff at TPC Scottsdale. After charging home with five birdies in his final six holes to post a 7-under 64, Gotterup watched from the range as 54-hole leader Hideki Matsuyama stumbled with a 72nd-hole bogey. In the playoff, Gotterup sealed the victory with a clinical birdie on the 18th, while Matsuyama’s bid for a third Phoenix Open title ended in the water. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler nearly pulled off the impossible, firing a final-round 64 to finish just one shot back in a tie for third after an opening-round 73.
Across the globe at Doha Golf Club, Patrick Reed continued his torrid start to the year by capturing the Qatar Masters. Reed closed with a 2-under 70 to finish at 16-under, claiming a two-shot victory over Scotland’s Calum Hill. With two wins and a playoff loss in his last three starts on the DP World Tour, Reed has officially moved back into the top 20 in the world rankings and looks poised for a massive 2026 campaign.
