Tournament Intelligence Pipeline π΅οΈββοΈ
While ya'll are watching the tournaments unfold on TV, at UnderPar we're well...watching and building. Next week we'll be bringing you data from our tournament intelligence pipeline. We'll have data to analyze from drive distance and accuracy to greens in regulation, putting performance, and sand save percentages.
Think hole-by-hole tracking as players move through each round, real-time stats on who's gaining strokes where, and the kind of granular tournament intelligence that shows you not just who's leading, but why they're leading and how they got there.

Here's what we have in store in terms of releases π
π΅οΈββοΈ Tournament Intelligence Pipeline - We'll be releasing this by the the June 15th newsletter so we can bring you more data driven tournament results from our own pipelines.
π Data viz framework - This is going to take us the longest, and it is what will provide you the most value. Ben and I believe in building in public and we just want to provide value for you. That said we want to have a data viz MVP out by the middle of summer.
π° Value picks model - We're currently working on a model about how to best pick players for the next tournament. It's not just a guess, we're building an entire pipeline around this and will make adjustments as we go. Expect to see this timeline around the end of summer.
β±οΈ Real time updates pipeline - Get updated on twitter about tournament leaderboards and big moves in real time. Expect this to be released sometime this summer. It can come pretty quick once the tournament intelligence pipeline is finished.

Recapping The Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village β³
Muirfield Village is Jack Nicklaus's masterpiece! A course design that demands precision and power. It measured 7569 yards this week, not the longest course on Tour, but still a beast. The difference maker for Muirfiled Village is it's punishing rough. You just really need to be on your game with every club in the bag. Jack really designed this magical place to reward smart play over power.
While the rough was still a challenge this year, the course did play into a slight advantage for the bombers. It played neutral this week in terms of power vs precision where it historically has favored the straight hitters.
Scottie just played consistent Golf again this week. He shot 2 under par 70s this week the 1st, 2nd, and 4th rounds. He just keeps the train moving and runs over anything in his way.

The Memorial Tournament Final Leaderboard:

Tournament data updated: June 1, 2025 by UnderPar
Where it mattered π―
Scottie continued his dominant ball striking this week. He gained strokes in every category except putting where he finished 34th and lost 0.03 strokes to the field. The story was really tee shots this week. The rough was a serious penalty to the players so keeping in the short grass was crucial. Scheffler, Griffin and Straka all finished in the top 5 strokes gained off the tee, and top 10 strokes gained tee to green.
Rickie Fowler had a top 10 finish this week. He played well tee to green where he gained 1.51 strokes against the field. He putted mostly average compared to the field this week where he saw alot of success in rounds 2 and 3 at Colonial last week. Super excited to see Rickie playing well again and we'll see if he can make some gains on these successes.
METRIC | Scottie Scheffler -11 | Ben Griffin -6 |
---|---|---|
SG: PUTTING Strokes gained on the green | -0.03 | +0.75 |
SG: AROUND GREEN Strokes gained in short game | +1.13 | +0.46 |
SG: APPROACH Strokes gained on approach shots | +1.84 | +0.63 |
SG: OFF THE TEE Strokes gained on tee shots | +0.95 | +1.04 |
SG: TEE TO GREEN Combined T2G performance | +3.92 | +2.13 |
SG: TOTAL Overall strokes gained | +3.90 | +2.90 |
FINAL ROUND R4 score | -2 | +1 |
Cool stat βοΈ
Ben Griffin fired a tournament best (tied) 65 in round one to post 7 under. He gained +3.84 strokes putting making over 130 ft of putts in the first round. He then was 1 over par over his next 3 rounds and still finished 2nd. I think this shows not only how hard the course played, given that he only dropped one spot at 1 over, but also just how impressive his putting performance was. Ben Griffin is just getting started.
Some Picks for the RBC Canadian Openπ
Setting the scene πΌοΈ
TPC Toronto will be hosting its first PGA Tour event this week having undergone some recent renovations. It is a longer course now playing 7,445 yards. Two of the hottest players on tour, being Scottie Scheffler and Ben Griffin are not playing this coming week ahead of the US Open. Returning to play after his week off is Rory McIlroy. Given the tour has never played at TPC Toronto, it will likely be either a fully new course to many of the players or at least a fairly unfamiliar course.
Rory McIlroy
Rory is currently the heavy favorite for this coming week. The Canadian Open is one of the (many) events he has won multiple times with multiple top 10 finishes as well. I think the fact that this is a new course favors Rory over much of the field given his experience and ability to plot through a course. The length won't bother him at all and he is going to be fresh coming off his week off.
Cory Conners π¨π¦
While being Canadian alone doesn't necessarily mean he has a better chance for success, I do think it may give Conners a leg up given the field likely doesn't have much experience with this new course. Conners is having a fantastic year with top 25s in 8 of last 9 starts including 4 top 10s. Conners has played well in this event before and he's trending towards a big win.
Sam Burns
Burns is really turning things around after 3 consecutive MCs. He has had some strong finishes in his last few starts including a T12 this weekend and his game is looking sharp again. He fired an impressive 65 on Friday showing his game is there he just needs to put 4 rounds together. Burns finished T10 last year in this event and has a previous T4.
